Elvis Presley Dont Be Cruel Written by Otis Blackwell. Elvis recorded it July 2, 1956 at RCAs New York City studios. It was the first session to feature all four of the Jordanaires. Take #28 was released. It was the B-side to Hound Dog and entered Billboards Top 100 chart at #28, reaching #1 for seven weeks, for a total fo 27 weeks on the chart. It reached #1 on the Country Juke Box chart, the Country Best-Seller chart for five weeks, and the Rhythm & Blues chart for one week. It was the first of three Elvis songs to reach #1 on all three charts (the other two were Teddy Bear and Jailhouse Rock). Elvis sang this song many times on TV appearances and in concert.
